1st XI win again beating the weather and Birch Vale!

Saturday saw High Lane play host to Birch vale. With the weekend bringing the rain with it, hopes of an early 12 start were dashed, fortunately after a half hour delay the captains met in the middle and after calling correctly the visiting captain invited  High Lane to bowl first meaning, with the Big Quick, Eiselt, carrying an injury Chorlton and Noel took the new ball. Noel picked up where he had left off last week giving the opening batsmen little room to score, this pressure came good in the 10th over as the first wicket fell with only 12 runs on the board. From there the situation didn’t get much better for the visitors who were soon reduced to 40-6. Joe Chorlton finishing an outstanding spell with excellent figures of 4-15 off 12. From there the Birch lower order showed some resistance, eventually posting a respectable 102 all out.
In reply High Lane made the perfect start with a solid opening partnership of 56 before T. Eiselt was removed for 25. With an excellent spell from the visitors’ Johnson (5-24), regular wickets fell  before High Lane dragged themselves over the line 6 wickets down (J. McCarthy top scoring, 33) to secure their fourth win in as many games at home this season in front of another good crowd.

Next week sees League leaders Hazel Grove travel to Woodview, no doubt looking for revenge for a midweek defeat in the T20 cup.
