Welcome again to our quarterly update on life @ HLCC! 2020 was an incredibly challenging year for the club and our broader community within High Lane. We have certainly met these difficult times together and despite limited cricket did find opportunities to progress key developments across our club. We are excited to welcome everyone back to Middlewood soon to share the progress we are making. We hope to host several community-based events in 2021 as we emerge from lockdown and welcome you all to join us on match days.
The Return to Cricket will commence with the opening of outdoor sports on 29th March. Whilst winter nets have not been possible due to the pandemic, we hope to start outdoor training in April and anticipate a near normal season. Building upon the progress of recent years, we are pleased to confirm the return of two senior teams and juniors at all age groups for 2021. We can now offer our senior members a range of cricketing options across the week which better suits today’s modern lives. Massive thanks to the ECB and DCCL league for getting the game back-on and for the support of all our members and sponsors!
Our Pavilion Improvements have had to progress at a slower pace due to lockdown restrictions. In line with the COVID-19 roadmap, we hope to have the first phase of work (Kitchens and toilets) open for the new season and fully open the pavilion by June. Our outdoor access to the bar should help those wishing to enjoy our outdoor hospitality whilst watching the cricket from Mid-May.
As many of you will be aware, access to High Lane Cricket Club has been a real challenge as the approach road is in serious disrepair. We are pleased to say the Council and HLCC have agreed to invest £175,000 in improving access from A6 via Middlewood road. Our club have committed to investing £8000 towards our access road improvements by May 2021. Work is now underway and will be complete by the start of the cricket season so everyone across our community can enjoy our Middlewood ground and newly renovated Club House.
