U13 gain great experience on friendly debut.

21 May 2021

This week our U13’s crammed in a developmental friendly match against Timperley. This was an opportunity for both sides to field their inexperienced players, allowing them to obtain valuable match experience.

Thankfully the rain earlier in the day had stopped early enough that we were still able to play, albeit on a soft crease. We had debuts from 3 players, George Barber, Lewis Stopford, and Thomas Crossley.

Our fielding during the match was a massive improvement on last week, with 4 catches being part of the 10 wickets taken. However, our bowling gave away around 50 extra runs, so this is something that we will be working on during future practice sessions. Despite a shaky start, Timperley had a good innings with some solid batting and running.

In a departure from the normal teas served during the break, we had ice-cream thanks to one of the boys celebrating their birthday.

With the chase on, High Lane took to the crease. Much better communication between the batters stopped some run outs from happening by over eager running. We had some nice clean batting, but it just couldn’t beat the accurate bowling by Timperley.

Despite losing the match to Timperley, this was a great introduction to competitive cricket for our new starters and more experience gained for our other players. The next match in the DCCL will be away at Hayfield on Wed 26th May.
