U15 lose out in tough local derby against Grove!

14 May 2021

High Lane u15s took on Hazel Grove at High Lane CC in their first match of the season.

High Lane took to the field and Hazel Grove’s batsmen got straight in to their stride with Wilson retiring on 30 ably supported by Hodkinson 19, Noden 24 and Hodson 28* to post a total of 127-2 off 20 overs. Wickets fell to Oli Cheetham (1-13 off 3), Dennis Roberts (1-12 off 2) and pick of the bowlers was Joel Gaffey who went for one run off 2 overs. The effort from High Lane’s players was unquestionable with Tom Barber and Will Bradford having to leave the field for short periods to take on ice packs to their knees!

Full of confidence, High Lane commenced their innings but a top and middle order collapse within the first 6 overs saw them fall to 19-6 and then shortly after 26-7 due to a series of poor shots, calamitous run outs and good bowling from Hazel Grove.

However, all was not lost as the middle/lower order were set the challenge of seeing out the overs. James Thompson led the way with an impressive 21 from 38 deliveries and determined test match style batting from Dennis Roberts (1 from 21) and Dan Spencer (2 from 31) saw High Lane see out the 20 overs scoring 41-8.

Room for improvement for sure but the attitude of the lads down the order was impressive and stands us in good stead for the season. Next game is away at Whaley Bridge on 17th May.
